Discussion:
Further development

Hi List,

I just wanted to know if some are interested in further developing webcyradm.

As the Company Bitheads now seems to be closed, I am afraid that also
webcyradm will be "lost".

Currently I am using the 0.5.5 mentioned on the download page.

So far web-cyradm has all the features I need.

Is somebody on the list interested in continuing this project? I know there
are some alternatives, but I'd rather stay with webcyradm.

What would be the best starting point for further development? The 0.5.5
version or the last snapshot from svn? Has anybody got a tarball of this?

Some thing I'd like in web-cyradm are:

* Of course bug fixing.
* Implement SSL/TLS connection for the connection to the server (Cyrus/Sieve).
* Better account-navigation for larger sites (Which is in CVS already?)
* In the long term new features might be added, but that is not the priority
at the moment.

Best regards,

Claus

Hi,

It would be great to have developement team. I have also web-cyradm from
the begining, maybe. It is great, because postfix+cyrus is very fast. But
when you look at other web manegement solutions (like postfixadmin:
postfix+courier), everybody wants better than web-cyradm now.

Kind regards,

The other solutions didn't have a development stop for the last couple of
years.

Does anyone have access to the latest CVS/SVN snapshots of webcyradm? Or is
the trunk version mentioned on the homepage the current?

Maybe there are already some improvements in there?

Hi Claus,

I don't have access to the repository.
So i think it's best to work from the snapshot that's on the website.

Take a look at xerxes on www.qwik.net or Sourceforge.
I did.

Wasn't there a demo site sometime ago?

When did xerxes split from webcyradm? At which version?

What seems to be missing in xerxes is for instance the ability to restrict an
accounts access on IMAP, POP, SIEVE, SMTPAUTH.

For what I can see now I'd rather stay with webcyradm and have that improved.
Maybe it's just me being too cautious of changing to something completely new.

Whitelisting is (at the moment) not that much needed for me.

Hi List,

so far there are only a few responses.

But I think nevertheless the project should be kept up.

Does anyone have a recent SVN snapshot? The one linked on the downloadpage is
in fact just about the same as the 0.5.5 version.

So version 0.5.5 will be most likely the version we will start with.

I will also check the patches sent to the list if they are still needed.

If someone has a patch or patches, please share them.

Are there any known "serious" bugs in version 0.5.5? I haven't encountered any
by now. Buf reports are also welcome.

Claus

I've been using web-cyradm for five or six years and have fixed a couple of bugs. However the version I have is 5.4.rc1 (from the README file). Where can I get 5.5? I'll install it and attempt to help some with further development.

I'll also compare my "fixed" code with the new code and provide information on any changes I made that might need to go into the new base.

The README is quite outdated.

When you you look on the web frontend you see the Version at the bottom: "you
are running ...".

The 0.5.5 Version can be downloaded from the homepage.

The 0.5.5-beta1 sounds good. What I wonder is why does it say partial? Did you
download the 0.5.5 Version from the download Page (which seems to be currently
down)?

I am not sure where I got the code, as it as been a couple of years since I upgraded to this version, then fixed a couple of issues.

It is possible that I put the "partial" in the conf.php file when I changed a few things.

Hi,
I also have the 0.5.5-beta1 version that I got from download page. I
kept the archive on my server and it's the same version.

I added to my running web-cyradm a new limit for a domain to separate
maximum alias from maximum mail accounts. For exemple, you can have 20
mail accounts and 100 alias.

I explain how to modify web-cyradm in french here :
http://www.dj-j.net/waka/Linux:Web-Cyradm_Nombre_de_comptes_et_d%27alias

I proposed it on the mailinglist some years ago without answer.

I can help in some development and for hosting.

Regards.

My French is not really good, but the changes aren't too big. So I think this
would for sure be something to include.

Development will be needed for sure and hosting may also be an option.

But for the beginning open bugs in the 0.5.5-beta1 version should be the first
thing we should care about.

How ever, I think that this should be mentioned on the project's website.
